More on Manners

Manners are how we show respect and consideration to others.  Remember that the words, "PLEASE...THANK YOU...and YOU'RE WELCOME" are not just social niceties; they are essential words in our vocabulary.  Every waking moment we have a choice about how we behave and interact with one another.  By treating you with respect I will appeal to the best in you.  Urging you to do the same to others.  Remember that someone is always watching you, be the example that can change someones day or world.

Where I got the name Maja

A very special young man died March 6, 2010. This anniversary brings with it both sadness and joy. Sadness because of the loss and joy because of the beautiful way my godson, Seth Jenkins, spent his thirteen precious years.

Seth touched many lives through his positive attitude, his focus on others, and his bravery. When he was very little he couldn't say "Mary John" so instead he called me "Maja." That name has stuck and whenever I work with young people I continue to use that name. Seth faced unbelievable hardships but he was constantly positive and inspiring. I try to bring that energy with me when I work with children and young people both as a motivation for success and as a tribute to Seth.

Please visit the Caring Bridge website to read more about his story.

What is Strictly Manners?

Strictly Manners, is a very respectful term for the way I was raised and it has served me well. In fact, knowing what to do, when to do it and how to do it can be life changing. Imagine never having to second guess yourself in any professional or social setting. It’s called confidence and people are attracted to it.
